Why Scouting?

Opportunity. Leadership. Growth.
Scouts will have shared experiences that would not happen elsewhere.
It’s about learning how to survive, not just in the woods but in the real world. In Scouting, your kid will have many chances to make decisions, learn to compromise, and lead other Scouts. They will develop valuable life skills, such as leadership, teamwork, and respect for others and the environment.
Unlike other youth organizations, Scouting isn’t adult-oriented. Scouts plan Troop meetings and events. They take on and delegate responsibilities. Adults are there to be guides and mentors. Scouts will form positive relationships with adults other than teachers and family.
Scouts will grow confident in themselves as they progress through Scouting. Failing in a friendly, supportive environment is just an opportunity to try again without the pressure of bad grades or negative feedback. Scouts learn to be both a follower and a leader while engaging in activities that challenge their minds and bodies.
Family involvement is an essential part of Scouting. Parents are encouraged to volunteer when they can. Whether it is becoming a registered adult and hanging out at campouts to make sure we have enough adult coverage or driving a group of scouts to and from events, everything helps. Time is short, and hours seem so few; our kids are no longer kids before we know it.
Youth, boys and girls, can join Scouts BSA if they are at least 10 years old, currently in the fifth grade and register on or after March 1st; OR have earned the Arrow of Light Award and are at least 10 years old, OR are age 11 but have not reached age 18.
